1 a.m. Meeting Times

When do you meet with your faculty?

1 a.m. Meeting Times

As the seasons change and as the time shifts to “spring forward”, my internal clock gets all kaflooy and I am up at 1 am.

This is why I don't schedule important meetings within two days of a time change. No one is themselves.

I'm up at 1 a.m. *sighs*, so while gettin'down with Big Mama Thorton, I'm creating curriculum and finishing up some work. By about 11 or 12, I'm going to need a nap, and if all is well, I will sleep deeply tonight. It's going to take a couple of days to adjust to the time. After collecting anecdotal evidence, it makes sense that I would extend that courtesy to my faculty.

As the daylight time lengthens, I schedule important discussions in the middle of the day—1 pm, 2 pm, like that. No one wants to stick around for a meeting in the late afternoon as the weather gets beautiful.

All meetings can be 15 minutes or less. I never understood one-hour meetings that didn't allow for networking or conversing with colleagues. If we had a chance to talk to our classroom neighbors and chitchat, then an hour meeting would be worth it.

But that's just me.

When creating your studio policies, consider your natural rhythm throughout the day and the year. Get to know your faculty and staff and consider their needs.
