Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
The Faculty Handbook

The Faculty Handbook is a masterpiece of diversity, equity and inclusion without ever using those words in the entire 455 page text.

The portraits within reflect the population I serve.
The language was thoroughly edited thusly.

All of this is reflected in the growth of my company:
My contracts, insurance options, and trainings support my teachers who hail from all of the everywheres.
If you saw a group picture of the people I serve and the folks I choose to work with, you would know without hesitation that you are welcome.
This is not new for me; please see the panel of teachers as well as the audience members I picked for the Teacher Town Hall at PBS nearly 14 years ago. Diversity is the engine that drives innovation, and the solutions that were generated after the show demonstrated a strong knowledge of how we are connected even with our differing backgrounds.
Yes, we have a DEI policy on paper. Of course we do--excellence doesn't happen by accident. And excellence cannot truly be achieved in an organization unless the organization represents the people it serves.
So, of course we have a written DEI policy. Here’s the thing: We also live it. Much like the online course where I wrote down how I train my own teachers (The Faculty Handbook is my actual faculty handbook), so too did we write the policy that mirrored how I and the disabled and the neurospicy and the world citizens move about the earth.
And that's why The Piano Instructor Consulting will remain a global leader long after my bones are dust.
