Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
Gift suggestions for teachers

This week, nationwide, we honor teachers.
- Pre-school
- Kindergarten
- K-12 public, private, charter, parochial
- Community College
- Trade School
- University
Thank a teacher today! This is what I—I mean we—we like:
- Cash
- Gift cards to almost anywhere (if we regularly go there, yay! If we don't, it's a new adventure, risk free! Yay!)
- Food (be careful of allergies)
- Travel vouchers for flights, trains and car rentals
- Supplies for us—we like pencils, good writing pens, pencil bags, crayons (yes, college professors do dig on crayons), funky erasers, stuff like that.
- Socks! Especially warm wool socks for winter lounging.
- Mittens/gloves/scarves (A teacher gave me a scarf that has become one of my favorite go-to pieces for a fancy night out)
- Ask the teacher and learn from them what they like and get that.
Ok, about that last one:
Quite often, when you ask a teacher what they'd like as gifts, they'll rattle off a list that 100% benefits the students.
You can’t get around that.
And that’s good, you know.
But I urge you to consider getting stuff that they selfishly would like, sans student-involvement.
To get that answer, you might have to dig a little by asking their colleagues to find out what they personally would like, and then you'll likely land on some great suggestions.
And no, there is no amount of cash that is too small of a gift:
There were plenty of times I left the house frazzled, late for a 7:30 am meeting with the principal (so already we are starting the day A-OK), realizing half-way to work that my lunch is on the coffee table by the door so that I wouldn’t forget it, along with the cash for lunch. There's no time to run out and grab something, and the lunchroom doesn’t take Visa, so $5 means I can run to the cafeteria and get a salad or a pizza slice and get some nourishment before the next class.
Treat a teacher today!
