Share your musician educator origin story

What's your origin story?
Here’s what I mean—
Where were you born? (Detroit)
What was the first piece of music that made you say, I want to do this? (Mozart's symphony #40. I was five)
What teacher influenced you? (LeRoy Rowley, the first Black certified music teacher in the Detroit School system)
What's your favorite food? (All of it. I love food).
These are the things your students want to know.
These are not insignificant conversation starters; these questions (and more) inform your students that you HAVE interests, that you CAN be positively influenced, that you ARE moved by deliciousness and beauty and love.
Your origin story is unique. Even if you're part of a multiple birth (interesting in its own right), your origin story will not be the same as your siblings.
You are an interesting, passionate musician-cum-educator.
What a rock star you are, for real.
