If you make it home, it was a good day.
Today was...a day.
I woke up to to my cat screeching at another cat.
I only have one cat.
The video camera shows the grey, puffy-faced neighbor cat running away in terror. The video camera also showed how he got in--so I took care of that right away.
He was probably getting out of the cold. It was zero degrees this morning. (Z.e.r.o.).
Welp, I'm up now, so let's get some work done. First, though, coffee.
My froth-er broke. I had to toss it. Then the components of my French press disintegrated. I could not put any of it back together. Then the glass cracked. For no reason--it was newly washed.
Peculiar.
Then, all three appointments were at least fifteen minutes late. They were all virtual appointments. These are people who are never late.
Then I went out to run exactly one errand. One errand.
One.
Normally it takes 22 minutes by car, 57 minutes roundtrip in public transit, and that's in bad rush hour traffic. I've got it down.
Today it took 3 hours.
My mom has the car, so I took public transit. Not one bus ran on time. Not one. So I missed all the connections.
This is unusual, because I deliberately took routes that are almost never late, statistically. (Yup, you can check that information). (Nerd).
When I got back home, tired, irritated, hungry, I discovered my Carter meowing very sorrowfully and waiting for me at the door. Unusual. I picked him up and held him to me and that helped him purr. I walked over to his bowl, wondering if his tummy hurt from the food. But not one bit of it was there. That is unusual--he is a grazer, not a gobbler.
Then I realized– the other cat. That b---
Sure enough, it poked its head from behind the curtain and took off running when I let Carter out of my arms. I sealed the entry/exit path much, much better, and then sat down, tired with the beginnings of hangry creeping in.
And that's when I began to smile.
Nothing went right today. It was...a day.
But if this is a "bad day" for me, I'm good, you know.
You see, I came home.
And now I'm about to feed the cat and feed me and climb into gym wear and prep for next week's fencing tournament and then shower and change and read the book I picked up on the way home.
We under-value leaving home and returning home in one piece. I did that.
Therefore, it was a good day.
