Introduction to Digital Literacy and Artificial Intelligence

Wait--why is The Piano Instructor teaching courses on digital literacy and artificial intelligence?

Very good question.

  • Because musicians are experimenting with artificial intelligence so let's all get on the same page with accurate information.
  • Because the entire globe is either privately or publicly experimenting with LLMs like ChatGPTs so let's all get on the same page with that too.
  • Because improving digital literacy will enable you to use these tools effectively.
  • Because artificial intelligence has been here for some time and we all need to catch up on what's up.

We are in the Digital Literacy Age, folks (I don't know if this era is called that; I'm just saying we are headed...somewhere...digitally...and we are...uh...in an Age...). And we need to stay abreast of current events as best as we can.

Click here; this will direct you to Teachers Pay Teachers, a global site where educational professionals list their groundbreaking (and sometimes "Whew! This saved my beehind in class today!") assignments, curriculum, and seminars.

Mine is a fifteen minute video that goes into detail about these topics, describes some newsworthy concerns, and provides studies on how this can affect students. The download is immediately available, and you can listen and or watch it.

I wrote this for teachers, but really--if you have kids or care for kids, it might be worth it for you.

Music teachers– if you're teaching the exact same way as you did in 2019, please catch up. So much has changed in how students acquire information, in how they're responding to this technology, and how it's all being used--and we are post-pandemic five years now, so we are seeing the changes in cognition, physical reflexes, creativity, math receptivity and more as well.

We teach this. For real.
