Have a great time celebrating the new year!
I am now on vacation until the 2nd. Before I depart to begin the party (which basically involves seeing Nosferatu and playing video games with my brother):
- Please know that resolutions have a tremendous failure rate. Only 9% hold their resolutions for the whole year.
- I teach this:When I needed to change something like increase my practice on the piano, I made it a habit and I started comically small.I began with 60s. Literally one minute a day. This was the amount of time I knew I could commit to every single day. Consistency is key to mastery. The idea was to play for 60s—and that's it. I got up from the piano after 60s.But I did it every day, twice a day. After a few days, 60s is clearly not enough time to make a real difference. My body knew this before my mind did. So, soon, the practice extended to a quick song, five minutes.I'm now practicing an hour in the morning and about 90 minutes in the evening.
- It makes me content to know that I no longer have the desire to compare myself to others.I want to improve upon myself. And it seems that that focus is far more satisfying than trying to acquire what someone else has. Each person really is on their own path and you can't compare. I mean, you can, but you can’t, you know. It's a futile exercise that wastes mental energy that could be spent on your talent.
Whatever happens in 2025 in my life, it will be a direct result of my habits, mindset, and heart. It's my determination to keep those true as I attempt to make a difference in this world with my existence.
Happy New Year!
