No Kings Day
I'm a mathematician, a musician, a teacher, a producer, and a writer.
I'm a mother, daughter, sister, cousin, niece, and friend.
I just wanna make music, have great dinners, and laugh a lot.
But now I live in a country where some citizens at the highest level of government feel comfortable erasing folks who look like me.
Erasing.
I can be detained for no reason. I can be disappeared for no reason. I can be tortured for no reason.
It doesn't matter that I am a mathematician, mother and writer. It matters if this Brown person dissents...or is in the way...or is in the bed sleeping minding my own business...
No Kings Day. No to the policies that lack due process. No to the American Gestapo also known as ICE. No to policies that strip healthcare, vaccine, science/engineering/technology/math and special education funding.
What blows my mind is that I can't believe writing this is brave. I can't believe I am even hesitating to share this. I want healthcare. looks around I want my LGBTQia+ kin to feel safe. looks around I want to make my own decisions about my health with my doctors. looks around
It must be clear where my company stance is, especially now. This where The Piano Instructor stands...on the side of the people.
Here's the thing--If I don't stick up for all of us, none of us is safe.
