Ruth Meckler Laredo
Detroit-born musician series

Ruth Heckler Laredo was a three-time Grammy nominated classical pianist. She was best known for her interpretations of Rachmaninoff and Scriabin. She recorded a five CD collection—the complete works—of Rachmaninoff under the Sony label, and under the Nonesuch label she released Scriabin recordings. She debuted with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra at the age of eleven.
A faculty member of Yale University and the Curtis Institute, Ms. Laredo hosted master classes at the Eastman School, Indiana University and the Academy of the West. She also lead the Metropolitan’s Concert with Commentary series, interviewing artists and providing insight and musical commentary.
She had just completed her seventeenth season of concerts at the Metropolitan Museum of Art when she passed away at the age of 68 in 2005.
