Small Celebrations
Jar yourself out of the duldrums

I promise this is educationally related.
99% of the time I celebrate with a grapefruit/pomegranate Izzy mixture..
Today, I sprung for the Ste. Chateau Michelle reisling.
Here's why I'm celebrating:
- I ran errands and noticed that I was outside at 5:45 pm and there was still sunlight. Yay!
- Over the holiday weekend, my phone was stolen/lost, and then found and retrieved. Yay!
- Someone sent me a Valentine. Yay!
- The bao buns I bought were excellent. Yay!
How is this related to pedagogy?
Part of my teacher training is giving techniques for stopping, pausing, taking a breath.
Today is February 18th, when teaching becomes a drag, when days off disappear, where spring break means staring at the wall for four days just to recover.
It is true that having small celebrations can make a huge difference in jarring yourself out of the humdrum of this time of year.
No, it doesn't replace a therapist or medication or a month-long vacation. But it is a pattern-interrupt during days that look exactly the same.
Find the moments of joy and steep yourself in them. Yes, you're worth it. Yes, it matters.

I apologize if you're struggling with sobriety; as you well know, I rarely imbibe myself and avoid showing photos of such beverages. Today was an exception.
