Sunday night bedtime rituals matter
Tea and Sonic Bliss for me

What do I do to get ready for the week?
Let me share what I did today:
- I cleaned the house.
- Took out the garbage.
- Cleaned the litter box.
- Put all clothes away except for the clothes I will wear tomorrow.
- Picked up trash in the yard.
- Swept the sidewalk and driveway.
- Washed and put away the dishes.
- At 9 p.m., I turn on Sonic Bliss on 107One Fm Ann Arbor. (https://www.annarbors107one.com)
- I make tea. This is very important—it has to be outstanding tea. Loose leaf. Aromatic. Soothing. And it has to be in the “right” cup, whatever that means for that evening.Tonight was lavender with wildflower honey poured into the clear glass cup and stirred with the long handled spoon.
- I grab a fiction book.
- I curl up on the chaise lounge and read. Carter sometimes joins me. Tonight, he's on some sort of adventure that apparently requires meowing forlornly at nothing.
- And when I start drifting off to sleep, I go to bed.
This is how I do it. I need to have a clean environment and a quiet mind before I can proceed toward a new week.
If my mindset is all over the place and my environment is chaotic, I cannot give my best to my clients or students. I learned this about myself a long time ago.
It is important to note that this doesn't cost a lot. The cup is from the Dollar Tree. The tea was from Germack in downtown Detroit. I use bottled water from Aldi because it tastes good, and the pastry was from Liberati in Allen Park.
I create my own luxury, and use that to self-soothe and to rest well.
What's your ritual? How do you prepare yourself so that you're grounded and ready?
