Taking musical risks.

Teachers, are you?

Taking musical risks.

When was the last time you went to a concert where you didn’t know the artists?

How often do you change the preset radio stations in your car?

What would happen if you deleted all of your music playlists and started over with new music?

When was the last time you asked your students who they were listening to—and then hungrily listened to the artists they suggested?

Are you composing or performing music that is pushing your definition of what “proper music” is?

When was the last time you performed outside of your genre?

Are you muttering, “There is no good music anymore”?

This list is about challenging yourself to remember the feelings that arose when you first understood how profound music is.

You couldn’t get enough.

You had to listen to that album or EP.

If you didn’t make it to that concert, you knew your world would simply end.

When you got heartache, it was this song that helped you heal. Or when you saw Them, this song happened to be playing at the cafe next door and now that’s Y’alls Song.
