Most educational institutions give you X number of hours per check or Z number of days per year of personal time or “sick days” or some such. Sometimes it rolls over to the next year. Sometimes it doesn’t. Check your contract.
Use it. All of it.
Don’t feel guilty about it and don’t be shamed into not using it.
And, good lord, don’t use it to catch up on work. Use it to catch up on you.
