What to do when you don’t feel like teaching
but you don’t have the hours to take off.

- Suggestion: In your mind, hire yourself as a substitute teacher and then act like that. Don’t tell anyone what you’re doing. Use your actual name.
- Lesson idea: Type this into ChatGPT: “Create five, fun 45 minute lesson about [insert the standard you’re supposed to cover].” Then pick the easiest one for you—for you—and do that.
- Help yourself and others: Ask students to find short inspirational videos on the standard you need to cover. Make sure the videos are less than 60s. Give credit for submissions, then watch the videos and be inspired.
- Take care: Make sure on this day you eat a salad. Even if you follow it up with hot dogs doused with chili, cheese, fries and bacon with a giant soda or pop depending on where you are, eat the salad.
- Go in to work and do it purely for the money on this day. It’s ok—we know that the fine print is that you generally are teaching for “the mission” or “the cause” or “the passion”, but sometimes it’s ok to just be able to “pay your car note” and “buy groceries” and leave it at that.
You’re not alone. We gotchu. Here’s a picture of Dr Carter Godwin Woodson II for no reason.
