Your Health and Safety
The Piano Instructor

The first and longest chapter in my online course The Faculty Handbook is called Health.
It covers the health of the teacher.
I wrote about sleep stages, movement, decision fatigue, ergonomics, breathing exercises, and more.
Why? This is a rather unusual take for educational pedagogy.
Here's why:
Without the teacher, nothing happens.
Full stop.
Periodt.
If you aren't well-rested, it will affect your teaching.
If you're dehydrated, it will affect your teaching.
If you don't feel supported in your decisions, it will affect your teaching.
Even though I am a teacher, and even though the name of the company is The Piano Instructor, by virtue of being the owner of this company, I'm an administrator, a boss.
As an administrator, I am even more focused on making sure teachers feel as supported as I do.
Otherwise there is no instruction.
We all need time to think about best practices, to earn enough money to not have to play small, to have a safe space to rest and play, and to have the ability to move about the earth as we choose.
Take care of your health. You're the only You you have.
